Grassroots Giveaway February – Things Of My Very Own

February has arrived and that means it’s time to announce our next recipient of the DeNooyer Chevrolet Grassroots Giveaway! This organization began as a promise by a young girl in the foster care system, who recognized the impact of the foster care system on children, and the seriousness of the situations that led them there. A promise that has been serving 11 counties of the Capital Region since incorporating in 2008; providing services and programs to children who are impacted by severe abuse and/or neglect. We are proud to announce Things of My Very Own, Inc. as the February recipient of the Grassroots Giveaway and donations of $4,500 toward their efforts.

Things of My Very Own Inc. (TOMVO) began as a small, at-home effort by founder Rayn Boncie. In 2010 alone, they served 5,892 kids, still operating out of Rayn’s home. In 2014, they would move to their Green Street location in Schenectady, a 20,000 square foot building! The building holds all the items needed to provide for children, and non-abusive family members, to get out of situations quickly and without feeling that they have lost everything. In December 2017, TOMVO assisted 2500 kids, and after receiving national exposure in November, referrals are growing rapidly. The organization continues to grow from the initial goal of helping children in need of Child Protective Services, to now also assisting kids and non-abusive family members leave situations together.

With referrals rising and 11 counties to serve, TOMVO is a very busy organization. Working round the clock as their services are needed, they continue to provide a very important service to our area. We encourage you to visit their website to learn more about their services and programs, and how you can help their mission. We would like to thank Things of My Very Own for all of their work and congratulate them for being our February recipient of the Grassroots Giveaway!
